I'm not a big biography reader, but this one was different because it helps the reader understand how the events of Lewis's life shaped him into the writer & thinker that he was. I haven't read Book 1, but plan to. Grigsby makes many connections with the triple goddess worshipping neolithic age that apparently once predominated in the Mediterranean and European areas, with the old myths of the Nile valley and with the old faiths which suffused the area in which Rome arose.
