In my opinion, the author ranks with Antony Beevor. Notebooks are a quick and easy way to achieve this and more. I like the format of this book and it's well-written but so many of the examples are negative. Want to learn about one of Sweden's most famous playwrights. I realize that many other progressive Christians have struggled with reconciling the faith of their childhood with their adult views and I truly enjoyed reading this account of that struggle. Second, because it contains only around 140 species, I find that I can identify an unfamiliar Bay Area bird more quickly than I can using Sibley or National Geo. That such a common, workaday craft should bring satisfaction to a man born in a palace and who dealt regularly with kings and presidents, who commanded his nation’s armed forces in a global war, can’t help but build a bond between reader and subject, reminding us that Winston Churchill, for all the statues and portraits, was still a mortal man. It was exactly what I needed at the precise moment in time I needed it. In general the work is critical of the command structure and organization that sent Canadian forces to war. (Anyone book that can throw in the line "Joseph Campbell is spinning in his grave" and have it be apropos is totally awsome. Farzad is a graduate of the University of California Los Angeles ; American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, and Webster University MBA program, but by far the best education he has received has been from the School of Hard knocks. (That doesn't say a lot for the state of forensic science in the sixties). We have a dog named Apollo, so this book is a big hit in our home. It is an awesome read.
