It is an utterly fascinating book that reminds us that, over time, many historical details are of necessity, over time, relegated to the heap of "history trivia" even if, in their day, they were of tremendous importance. Virginia entered the book publishing arena with coauthored books on medical topics and soon became a ghostwriter/editor for doctors, therapists, business leaders, professional speakers, and many others who had a story to tell. With her tail between her legs, Ravitch sheepishly proffers the hope that somehow these mistakes can be rectified to once again put our priorities on children and teachers in the classrooms. The first story, "Silence," is a rather ornate return to the Henry James period and approach that Toibin used in "The Master," a novel that we genuinely loved when we read it in the group. I'm glad I started using a Kindle so I could give this book a try.
