Gilbert tells the story of Israel from the first settlers up to the present day. The outlook is not promising for the ragged band of rebels, pursued by bloodthirsty troops, hounded by bandits, and forced across a desert where death awaits all trespassers. She agrees and this is where the fun starts. He is now living with his son, an attorney, and daughter-in-law in Tulsa. All I really knew was that Wardens were able to use their energy and that they were servants to whatever Warden had their bottle. A must read for children and families of all backgrounds. I liked what was written but in this case bigger would have been way better. But only a gross misreading would label the work of Huysmans as that of a man fascinated only with decadent whims and amoral extravagances. Many of the phrases were less like reading some arcane phrasing than hearing those voices from my past. The magical denouement was a bit contrived and I felt perhaps left mysterious because Hughes had been under pressure to finish rather than a more clever resolution. The source of headaches has long puzzled me, and I have sought many, many treatments over the past 10 years to no avail. The way she interweaves her family’s history with her own spiritual insights and experiences.
