This book was part of my class curriculum, but I really enjoyed it. He received four more for Christmas, and is receiving a reading award in his class next week. Despite these omissions, the book is an outstanding memento of the exhibit, especially for those like myself who were unable to see it in person. I'm tickled to at last have a full-length book by Leslie Monsour, who is one of the wittiest and most strikingly original poets around. This book will, or at least it should, join the great works of literature. We went to numerous delightful towns, villages, and museums that didn't rate so much as a mention. In spite of the above, it was still enjoyable reading. Casey allows his characters to be jerks, confused, petty, spiteful, harsh, self-absorbed and at the same time loving, generous, clever, creative, fun-loving, and in general complicated like most real human beings are. i did lose a lot of respect for the author for crippling an elephant then watching it suffer so he could study it stating it was obviously in great pain and seemed to wish for death. I would recommend this engaging book - especially the "magic" Emerald City glasses .
